Dean McGlinchey, 26, approached the woman while she was walking near Burwood railway station about 10.15am last Sunday and began talking to her, police said.

When she tried to step around him, he allegedly grabbed her and dragged her across the road.

Mr McGlinchey is then accused of punching her in the face - breaking her glasses - before shoving her in the back of a car.

Police said a person driving past stopped to help, and the 27-year-old woman got out of the car and ran away.

Mr McGlinchey - who played reserve grade for the Bulldogs five years ago, and now works as a removalist - then drove off, police said.

Police appealed for the public's help over the attempted kidnapping, issuing a description of a tall, muscular man driving a blue SUV with Queensland number plates 362RUL.

A week later, on Sunday afternoon, Mr McGlinchey allegedly assaulted two people at a pub in Terrey Hills, on the northern beaches.

When he was with his father later at the Time and Tide Hotel in Dee Why, Mr McGlinchey allegedly picked up a bar stool and swung it at a 54-year-old man, hitting him on the face, knocking out a tooth and leaving him unconscious.

The alleged victim needed surgery for a cut on his face.

Officers spotted Mr McGlinchey and his father, 57, in the blue SUV soon after the alleged assault, and arrested them.

Mr McGlinchey is charged with attempted kidnap, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of common assault, affray, and drink driving.

His father was charged with various assault offences over the alleged incident at the pub. He will face court later this month.

Mr McGlinchey did not appear in Parramatta Bail Court when his matter was briefly mentioned, and did not apply for bail.

His Legal Aid solicitor asked that he have medical treatment in custody.

He will appear in Central Local Court on Thursday.
