Supporting Push for Palliative’s efforts to have NSW Parliament debate the establishment of a designated palliative care facility in Orange has been a real honour and privilege.
With overwhelming support from the community and grit and determination on the part of Push for Palliative, the petition has finally made it to Macquarie Street.
For all those interested in hearing the discussion, I extend a warm invitation to attend Parliament House on Thursday at 4.30pm.
I'd like to congratulate Orange Push for Palliative Care for their hard work in getting over 10,000 signatures.
ASKING YOUR QUESTIONS
ENSURING the electorate of Orange gets answers from ministers has also been at the forefront of my actions in the Legislative Assembly.
One way I am able to hold them to account is through the use of questions.
Since being sworn in in February I have asked 25 written questions and two questions without notice on a range of issues important to our electorate.
The Legislative Assembly also affords members the opportunity to recognise the hard work and commitment of community members and organisations.
With such a vibrant electorate, it is always wonderful to record constituents’ contributions in Hansard, the parliamentary record.
One such individual who has done much for others is Doug Dalzell.
Having seen the devastation of the recent bushfire near Dunedoo, Doug set about to coordinate much needed assistance.
From hay runs to a charity dinner, Doug has raised much needed cash and provided a morale boost for those rebuilding their lives. Thanks for your efforts, Doug.
SPORT VOLUNTEER AWARD
CLOSER to home, it was a pleasure to announce Steven Rath of the Orange Softball Association as runner-up in the open category of the Central West Sporting Spirit Volunteer Award.
Steven has been involved in softball for many years and for the last six has developed a special needs softball team named the Kandooz, made up of athletes with a wide range of abilities.
Playing weekly, Steven leads members in both a warm-up and game, encouraging each team member and ensuring the players have fun each and every time they play.
Widely respected, Steven demonstrates the very best of the volunteering spirit, and I thank him for his time and effort.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
FUNDED through the NSW Government’s Arts and Cultural Development Program, I was pleased to acknowledge Emily Flannery’s successful application for a 2016 Young Regional Artist Scholarship, last week.
Valued at $10,000, the scholarship will enable Emily to attend the International Dance Journey Program through the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel.
With many years of involvement in the performing arts and classical ballet, Emily’s passion for dance is clearly evident.
I congratulate her on obtaining this scholarship and encourage others to pursue their dream as Emily has.
