REGARDING the current discussions about pavements needing to be fixed up, it seems to me it all boils down to a lack of pride in our city and a lack of will to carry out the most basic tasks.

As someone who suffered a double fracture of the arm following a fall after tripping on an uneven pavement, I sympathise with those people who live in or near Lords Place and have to cope with dangerously rough pavements.
There is no compensation available to people who are injured in this way unless they can prove the council was deliberately negligent.
I live in a new-ish area where there are no pavements whatsoever and I agree with Councillor Reg Kidd that pavements should be provided on at least one side of all roads in residential areas.
I would like to nominate the area outside Kmart between the shopping centre and the outdoor parking area opposite Orange Ex-Services’ Club as particularly uneven and a danger to shoppers.
I would also like to know when council proposes to fix up Leeds Parade between the Margaret Street and Honeyman Drive intersections. It is as rough as can be and a danger to motorists.
It has had numerous temporary fixes which only last until it rains again.
I invite the mayor, councillors and council staff to drive along it in both directions in an ordinary sedan – not a four-wheel drive – and see how they go.
And while we’re on the subject, the lane markings for vehicles turning off from Leeds Parade into Honeyman Drive and from Racecourse Road into Barrett Street are almost obliterated, which means no one has done anything about them for some years.
As I said, it all goes back to pride and a will to improve these aspects of Orange.

WILL B-DOUBLES BE ALLOWED ON OUR NEW BRIDGE?
THE additional bridge is needed, but why would council want B-doubles using It? This would be a disaster.
Is this why council is building a new roundabout at the intersection of probably the two widest streets in Orange, Woodward and Moulder?
Why is Summer Street and Bathurst Road still a B-double route?
I think this council has some explaining to do.
