The 24-hour event was the final push for 60 teams and their fundraising efforts, with nearly 1000 people getting involved.

“This incredible collective effort ensures that we here at the Cancer Council NSW can continue to support Orange and the surrounding district’s families through their cancer journey,” event coordinator Ricky Puata said.

Mr Puata said those funds would make a difference for the local community through a range of targeted programs.

Those programs included Transport to Treatment, a free service for patients and carers to get to medical appointments, a information and support hotline available at 13 11 20 and the SunSmart program designed for primary schools and preschool students across NSW.

One of the teams with the largest contribution was the members of Wentworth Golf Club, who raised $6860.

Team captain Jill Bale said one of the major fundraising pushes was a marathon golf session, covering 12 rounds.

Mrs Bale said resident professional Todd Brakenridge joined players for tee-off at 5.45am and lead them back to club house at 8.30pm the same day.

“Our pros get behind the team and play six rounds non-stop and this year they went around in golf cars and did 12 rounds,” she said.

As well as the marathon, there was a trivia night and small competitions.

Mrs Bale said the team was proud of the fundraising effort.

“It’s great to see the community rally around the cause,” she said.

“It’s a cause that we need to contribute it, whether it’s $10 or $20, it doesn’t matter, every cent is needed. It all has an impact.”
