Swimming in the 400 metre freestyle and the 200m freestyle events, Crisp touched the wall in third in both events to win bronze medals at the All Schools, a meet that doubles as a selection trial for the NSW Pacific School Games swim team.
Boasting a tall frame tailor made for ploughing through the pool, the 15-year-old clocked near personal best times in both events to match it with the best young swimmers in the state at a venue steeped with swimming tradition, Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
A James Sheahan Catholic High School student, Crisp is very modest about his achievements, but is excited to mix it with swimmers on the international stage.
The Pacific School Games draws athletes from across south-east Asia, namely New Zealand, to compete in its multi-sport games.
“I was pretty happy,” Crisp said, his two bronze medals qualifying him for his first international meeting a goal he set himself earlier in the season.
“I haven’t swum at an international event before … I’m not really sure what to expect.”
Crisp is up at 5.30am most mornings to train, following the black line on the bottom of the pool often seen as an arduous task.
Not for Crisp.
“I just enjoy it,” he said.
“It’s a passion of mine. I’ve been swimming since I was about seven.”
The Pacific School Games are on from December 3 at Adelaide.
