Countless Central West jumpers, NSW Country jerseys too, the Orange City Lions junior has been on the radar of rep selectors now for a long time.
But, now representing James Sheahan Catholic High School as part of the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges under 16s side, even he isn’t really privy to what he’s about to encounter at the NSW All Schools selection’s opening trial game at Camden.
Westcott’s NSWCCC side will take on NSW Combined High School’s in the first All Schools trial on Sunday.
It’s a game the rampaging No.8 is anticipating his side will do well in, but that’s based solely on a hunch more than any form prior knowledge.
“Some big boys, I think,” he laughed when asked what he was expecting up against the NSWCHS under 16s outfit in game one this weekend.
“I’ve played at the country champs a few weekends ago and made the country team, and last year I made the NSW team twice along with the country team and the (Junior) Gold program as well.
Some big boys, I think.
- Beau Westcott on what he's expecting from his opposition ahead of the All Schools tri-series
“I think we might beat CHS and ISA will be a bit of a challenge.”
The ISA team Westcott refers to is, of course, the NSW Independent Sporting Association outfit that draws from some of the best rugby nurseries in the state.
The NSWCCC boys will have plenty of time to prepare for that clash, though.
It won’t be played until the two sides meet at Knox Grammar later in June, where a NSW All Schools under 16s side is expected to be picked.
After surviving the cut from 120 down to 23 to make the NSWCCC outfit, Westcott says earning an All Schools jumper hasn’t been on his radar.
Instead, he’ll go down to Camden on Sunday and Knox in June looking to put his best foot forward, like he did while trialing for the sky blues.
“Yeah, I thought I did play well. I was pretty confident of making (NSW selection),” he said, 2017 being Westcott’s first in NSWCCC colours.
“We go down on Friday and we train for two days and play on the Sunday. I’m looking forward to it.”
NSWCCC trains at Narrabeen for two days ahead of the first trial, which is at Camden Rugby Oval, Wire Lane Camden on Sunday.
The Sheahan student is the only central west product in the team, with the bulk of the 23-man squad drawn from Sydney areas such as Ryde, Randwick and western Sydney, Fairfield, Auburn and Liverpool.
Only a handful of country kids have made the squad, with Tom Ryan (Singleton), Zab Maddinson (Nowra) and Rogan Hickey (Coffs Harbour) the others.
