Head of College, Dr Anne Wenham, announced back in February plans were underway to hold a reconciliatory evening, where a public apology would be made to the victims.
As Head of College, Dr Wenham said she was deeply sorry for what the young men experienced at the college and invited survivors who wanted to be part of the planning process to make contact with her.
This week, the school announced details of the event which will take place in the form of a Public Apology and Liturgy of Sorrow and Hope, being held in the school’s Performing Arts Centre on Friday, June 16.
Dr Wenham issued the public invitation to survivors, their family and friends as well as to members of the community this week, via the school’s Facebook page.
Media are not permitted to attend.
In a letter posted on the school’s Facebook page, Dr Wenham said the public apology was a shared acknowledgement that the abuse of children and young people was a failure of the Mission of the College which seeks to open the eyes, minds and hearts of our students to God’s loving presence in their lives.
“It is our hope and intention that the Apology and Liturgy may offer one step in the healing process for survivors, as well as for their families and friends,” Dr Wenham said.
The Public Apology and Liturgy of Sorrow and Hope begins at 7pm, and will be followed by supper.
