The story, which was written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood, was based on children’s nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle.
The national initiative is now in its 17th year and on Wednesday the LiveBetter Preschool and the Orange City Library were among the participants in Orange.
At Orange City Library, 25 children plus parents and babies attended the storytime, which was acted out with a puppet show and included sound effects such as a violin and whoopee cushion.
There were 20 children who took part in the story telling at the LiveBetter Preschool and director Lana Brown said because the story included excerpts from the nursery rhyme, the children also got involved reciting those lines.
Central West Libraries manager Jan Richards, said the campaign aims to encourage more children to read and enjoy books.
