Adam Troy Miller, 33, of Orange, faced 22 charges for five different matters from April 25, 2016, to March 17, 2017, in Orange Local Court on Tuesday.
Miller appeared in court via audio visual link and was represented by solicitor Gerry Stapleton, who said this was his client’s first jail sentence.
Mr Stapleton said Miller grew up in a good family and at one time had a high-paying mining job but became addicted to methamphetamines and ended up with an extensive criminal history.
Magistrate Carl Milovanovich said Miller spent about five months on remand since the first charge was laid in April.
He was on a 12-month suspended jail sentence for a break enter and steal, when he committed the April 2016, offence which was followed by more offences on November 30, 2016, December 1, 2016, January 22, and March 15 and 16.
Mr Milovanovich said the time in custody was broken up by periods when Miller was granted bail and then rearrested, but he would take the time served into account.
For offences that usually require a fine, such as not wearing a seat belt, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle and displaying the wrong number plates, Mr Milovanovich granted Miller non conviction orders due to the time served on remand.
“I’m not going to completely cripple you,” Mr Milovanovich said.
Miller was handed a range of driving disqualifications for charges including driving while suspended and driving while disqualified.
He was also given jail sentences including three months, six months, 12 months and 15 months, which will run concurrently.
He will be eligible to be released on supervised parole on November 22 this year.
Mr Milovanovich said among the most serious offences were two police pursuits including one on January 22, when Miller reached speeds of between 150 km/h and 180 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
For each of the police pursuits Miller was sentenced to 15 months’ jail with six months’ non-parole along with a three-year driving disqualification.
He was also given jail sentences for having suspected stolen goods, possessing house breaking implements, driving while disqualified and driving vehicles without the consent of their owner.
