Playing at Mudgee’s Glen Willow Stadium, UNSW’s Tahlia Nolan found the mark five minutes from time to hand her side a 4-3 victory.
The visitors scored twice inside the first 10 minutes, but the Mariners lifted and settled into the contest.
By half-time the Mariners had drawn level as firstly Kallie Sargent capitalised on a defensive lapse then a 35-yard effort from Tegan Courtney looped over the UNSW goalkeeper.
Five minutes after play resumed in the second half UNSW once more took the lead, Christine Lucantonio adding her her earlier strike to make it 3-2.
Once more Mariners fought back on level terms, Jasmin Courtenay converting from the spot after a UNSW player handled in the box. However, Nolan’s late effort gave the visitors a 4-3 win.
