The State government’s Fuel Check report, which records live price data, showed that on Monday Orange had the third cheapest average diesel fuel at 123.4 cents a litre and the 10th cheapest unleaded fuel at 127.1 cents a litre recorded over the past week.
The diesel price has been the lowest or second lowest in NSW for the past two months with the unleaded price consistently in the 10 cheapest average prices across 57 areas monitored.
Orange was second behind Lithgow in the Central West for unleaded fuel and the cheapest for diesel – four cents a litre lower than the next Central West town of Forbes.
And the NRMA has good news for motorists – the price of fuel is not likely to rise for some time – even with the Queen’s Birthday long weekend approaching.
NRMA spokeswoman Helen Machalias said overseas oil prices were not rising at present.
“What we’re seeing is that if the prices do go up it will be about servos seeking more money,” she said.
Ms Machalias said it was unclear why Orange was cheaper than many other areas.
“Fuel prices are driven by competition and it often depends on how many independents you have.”
The Fuel Check report showed that on Tuesday independent service stations were among the cheapest.
It found that at 2pm on Tuesday in Orange the average price of E10 ethanol fuel was 119.4 cents a litre, unleaded fuel was 124.9 cents a litre and diesel fuel was 127.8 cents a litre.
