Member for Orange Phil Donato submitted the signatures acquired in the past two years, endorsing the petition to certify it had the required number for debate.
It was then scrutinised by the Legislative Assembly’s table office staff before they accepted it.
A minimum of 16 minutes and maximum of an hour will be set aside from 4.30pm on Thursday, June 1 for the debate.
Mr Donato said it was satisfying to table the petition and the discussion on the floor of parliament would happen sooner than he expected.
“I’ve only come into it in the last six or seven months but it was great to acknowledge the hard work the Push for Palliative group have performed,” he said.
Mr Donato will be given six minutes to speak to the petition, with a minimum of three other MPs also to address the parliament.
The parliament itself will not be able to pass a motion on a palliative care ward, but Mr Donato hoped the debate would provide the traction needed to deliver the facility.
“Surely 10,000 signatures is not something to be taken lightly given we’re an electorate with 55,000 voters, so it’s almost 20 per cent,” he said.
