Les Farrell said he had been requesting improvements for years.
He pointed to yellow warning markings he said had been there for at least 12 years and the spot near his house where his wife, Joy, suffered a nasty fall a few years ago.
Christina French said she refused to walk on the path, south of Moulder Street opposite Wade Park, at night because it was dangerous.
Orange City Council has proposed a significant boost to its footpath repair and installation budget for the next financial year and has asked for resident input about where the money should be spent.
Two weeks ago the Central Western Daily asked residents to identify footpaths in need of action or to be supplied by council. We compiled a map of the sites of the worst spots.
Mr Farrell said he knew exactly where work should be done.
“There would not be a worse footpath than this in the whole of Orange,” he said.
“All along here it is just up and down, up and down, up and down,” Mr Farrell, a retired concreter, said, pointing to a stretch wrecked by tree roots.
“My wife came a gutser here about five years ago.
“She fell and busted her ankle and took all the skin off her elbows.”
Ms French said it was the worst path she had walked on in Orange.
“It’s dangerous. I’ve twisted my ankle too many times. The lighting is bad, too.”
David Hudson said it was “ridiculous” that council paint warning of dangerous sections had been down for many years without the path being fixed.
Council spokesman Nick Redmond said the draft budget proposed increasing funding for new paths and maintenance.
“$320,000 is proposed to be spent in the next financial year and $350,000 is proposed to be spent in each of the next three years after that,” he said.
Mr Redmond said council staff examined roads and footpaths and placed them in order of priority for work depending on funding.
“Now’s the time for any resident to have their say about any aspect of the budget,” he said.
