In the first time the two sides have met since Hawks won last year’s preliminary final in extra-time, the two blues dished the navy and limes another nail-biting loss in Saturday’s third round of 2017.
Hawks prevailed 39-38 at Sir Neville Howse Stadium, signalling just how little there is between the competition’s top sides this season.
The two blues remain undefeated as a result, they sit third behind the similarly unbeaten Orange City Lions and Vipers, in first and second respectively.
The Lions took care of Hawks’ other side, Central Fitness, on Saturday, winning 65-22 to continue their dominance.
Vipers accounted for the winless, last-placed Kinross unit on Saturday, triumphing 55-28, while Life Studio Mid West Eyes and Orange City Newey’s Drive-Thru Cleaners played out a thrilling 34-34 draw.
