This year the Central Western Daily asked readers to submit their best photo for a competition titled Shades of Orange: our beautiful autumn colours.
Sarah Parish, David Pickett, Brianna Sims and Lee Pickett have each won a $100 photo printing card courtesy of Harvey Norman Computers Orange.
Readers had a week to vote for their favourite snap in the People’s Choice category.
There were almost 1000 votes cast, with Ms Parish’s Spinning, featuring her daughter Ayva showing off a new dress in the autumn leaves, the clear winner.
“I took about 50 photos of her in that one spot,” Ms Parish said.
“I’ve been playing around with photography for a few years, since my first child was born. I decided to take photos as they were growing up.”
Ms Parish said she was looking forward to taking her prize and printing out some of those photos.
Three judges – Harvey Norman’s Simon Tew, Central Western Daily photographer Jude Keogh and Orange Camera Club’s Stephen Scott-Robertson – each chose a winner of the other printing cards.
Mr Tew selected David Pickett’s landscape in Elephant Park.
“I love the contrast between the leaves on the ground and the trees and the way all of the autumn colours are represented in the trees,” Mr Tew said.
“There are heaps of great photos in the gallery.”
Mr Scott-Robertson said he thought Overlooking Orange, taken by Lee Pickett, was the best, saying the kanagroos gave the shot a dynamic element.
“To find that location and get seven kangaroos takes some time and effort,” Mr Scott-Robertson said.
“It screams Australia in autumn.”
Ms Keogh selected Orange Beauty taken by Brianna Sims, describing it as “engaging” and a “great tonal image”.
“It was a great portrait, and wasn’t just a landscape photo,” Ms Keogh said.
“It captured the essence of the competition differently.”
The winners can come into the Central Western Daily's office at 190 Lords Place to collect their printing vouchers.
