As soon as Millthorpe builder Greg Good purchased a property just north of the village in 1992, one of the first things he did was establish a Suffolk ram and ewe breeding program.

That decision is continuing to haul in the awards with Mr Good’s Bowen Stud securing three top awards at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Mr Good was showing his Suffolk sheep in the meat and dual-purpose breed classes throughout the show and won Grand Champion Suffolk Ram, Grand Champion Suffolk Ewe and Reserve Grand Champion Suffolk Ewe.

A successful breeder for many years, Mr Good says that entering into the show on and off over the last 20 years allows him to keep himself, and his flock, on track.

“Showing isn’t the be all and end all, but it’s a very good guide of where you’re at in your breeding program,” he said.

The other advantage is meeting other breeders.

“Once you get there you learn lots of new things from other breeders,” he said.
