A family in Dubbo were left shocked on Sunday morning as they reviewed security camera footage to track down the culprit of a heinous Easter crime.

Shaun Williams ventured outside his Elizabeth Street home in the early hours of Sunday morning when he noticed a large portion of chocolate eggs delivered by the Easter Bunny overnight had gone missing.

Fortunately the father-of-five was one step ahead of the thief and caught the whole ordeal on camera.

Shaun’s wife, Jen, said they were surprised to see it was a fox that was responsible for the raid which occurred over 15 minutes in their front yard.

“Sunday morning after the Easter Bunny left all the eggs out the front we realised a lot of them were missing,” she said.

“We asked our teenage children whether they had snuck out to get a head start while everyone was asleep, but they hadn’t.

“Then we checked the cameras to make sure it wasn’t a neighbour’s dog because they would’ve got sick, we thought we better let the owner know.”

Eventually the cameras revealed the culprit behind the raid which occurred at 1.53am on Sunday morning.

The footage shows a fox enter the front yard around 10 minutes after the Easter eggs were delivered.

It can be seen wandering around the yard where it is believed to have devoured around 20 chocolate eggs.

It’s reasonable to assume it was a regrettable decision by the fox who also at the foil wrappers.

When we showed our youngest daughter she couldn’t believe it, she was hoping we’d caught the Easter Bunny on the cameras.

“When we showed our youngest daughter she couldn’t believe it, she was hoping we’d caught the Easter Bunny on the cameras,” Jen said.

Although the Easter Bunny managed to avoid the cameras it was still a first for the family who say they’ve never seen a fox in the neighbourhood before.

Thankfully for the Williams household the Easter Bunny also delivered goodies inside – out of reach from the fox with a sweet tooth.

“We still got plenty of eggs,” Jen said.

“The Easter Bunny always leaves a big basket of eggs and bunnies next to the kids’ bed and around the house.”
