Neither chose minor premiers and reigning two-time champions CYMS.
Both agreed third-finishers Orange City boasts the strongest side on paper and while Litchfield nominated the Warriors as his title-winners, Kennewell tipped Cavaliers.
“I think Orange City has been the most consistent side recently, outside their last round loss,” Litchfield said.
“They also caused us the most trouble I think having played and been beaten by all three of the teams in the finals. They certainly gave us the biggest touch up.
“But it’s a really open competition. It’s anyone’s and will probably just come down to which side handles the pressure better on the day.”
“Orange City definitely has the best side on paper and if they all fire they’ll be hard to stop, but if the weather keeps going the way it is this week they won’t even be in the big dance after finishing third,” Kennewell said.
The Warriors play Cavaliers in this weekend’s preliminary final, but if it’s washed out the maroons will progress to the following week’s grand final against CYMS after finishing higher on the ladder.
“It’s a tough one to pick, it’s a pretty even competition and all three teams could win it but I actually think Cavaliers will be very hard to beat,” Kennewell said.
“Even though they only just scraped into the finals they’ve got a very handy side and Richie Venner is in great form with the bat, Josh Doherty’s in great form with the ball.
“If they get it right, I’d tip them.”
The first grade finals start this weekend and will be played as Saturday-Sunday games. On day one play starts at 1pm as usual, before kicking off 11am on Sunday.
