Emergency services were called to the North Orange street after reports of gas coming from the storm water drains.
Firefighters arrived at 5.45pm, creating an exclusion zone and asking residents to remain in their homes.
As well as Orange’s three crews, a HAZMAT crew Bathurst attended to assist with monitoring gas levels and providing fire protection.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman said the gas company dug a small hole to locate and fix the leak, with the exclusion zone removed around 8.20pm when firefighters left the scene.
No injuries were reported.
