Dubbo Golf Club has long been one of the leading centres for the sport in the central west but this weekend it will look to achieve something which has eluded it up to this point.

Dubbo will have two sides in the Central West Golf Association Pennants finals with the annually strong Division 3 side joining a Division 1 side looking to win its first title.
The Dubbo side impressed in last weekend’s semi-finals, easing past Parkes 4-1 at Cowra and that set up a clash with defending champions Mudgee.
Dubbo joined the Central West district eight years ago and it has never been able to take the Division 1 crown despite the lower grade sides regularly finishing with silverware.
“Hopefully the boys can get a win, particularly in Division 1 because we haven’t won that in a long, long time,” Dubbo Golf Club professional Craig Mears said.
“I think the team getting int the final was not really expected.
“Division 2 missing out was a bit of a surprise. They won their first two matches at Cowra but then went out after losing the next three so that’s disappointing but its golf.
“But Division 1 won 4-1 and did it comfortably so they’ve probably got in a position we didn’t really expect but we’re glad they’re in the final.”
The Division 1 side in Sunday’s final, to be played at Orange Ex-Services, will again be led by number one player Ross Horrocks and is expected to feature Chris Schubert, James Morrow, Lachlan Jones and Matt Button.
“Mudgee is a really strong side but Ross Horrocks will play number one again and he’ll play Mark Hale, who’s been their number one for a while,” Mears said.
“But ‘Haley’ is apparently not playing all that great at the moment but you never know until you play on the day.
“Ross has been a really good leader.”
Boosting Dubbo’s chances further is the fact they are playing at Ex-Services, a course the sides played at just two weeks ago.
Mears said the players enjoyed playing their recently and while surprised the finals aren’t at Duntryleague, added the “fantastic” greens bode well for Sunday’s matches.
The Division 3 side, which will play Dubbo, has impressed for a number of years and has been strong throughout this season, winning a number of matches by a close 3-2 margin.
Mears said captain Chris Tongue did a “great job” with that side and added every player which represented the club this season performed well.
“Our Division 4 side finished equal top (in their pool) but lost on a three-way countback and our Division 2 side lost after winning the first two so really we were in a position to get all four in,” he said.
“It shows we’re a strong club, we have been traditionally, and we’ve got a good array of players across the divisions.”
The Division 1 and 3 finals start from 9am Sunday.
