Each year around this time the Friends of Orange Regional Gallery (FORG) present one of their major events, The Alan Sisley Oration.

This annual lecture series was established to commemorate the life and work of former gallery director Alan Sisley.

The oration echoes Alan’s lifelong passion for art, music and philosophy by inviting a distinguished person in the arts to share their perspective on a subject of their choice.

Previous speakers have included Edmund Capon, former director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales (2015) and Jane Rutter, one of Australia's premier flautists (2016).

This year’s special guest is Australian actor, theatre director and theatre manager, John Bell, AO, OBE.

Many readers will be familiar with the challenging and dynamic productions of the Bell Shakespeare company, which he founded in 1990, just one of his extraordinary contributions to Australian theatre.

Among his numerous awards and achievements, he was named a ‘National Living Treasure’ by the National Trust of Australia in recognition for his influence on the development of Australian theatre.

Mr Bell will be exploring the theme of Australian landscape in a talk titled ‘You Beaut Country’ at Orange Regional Conservatorium on Friday, March 24 at 6.30pm for 7pm.

Bookings are essential as places are limited and tickets are selling fast. If you are a member of the FORG tickets are only $50, otherwise $65 for non-members ($45 concession).
