Jason Winston Michael Hassall, 47, of Selwood Lane, pleaded guilty in Orange Local court to destroying or damaging property and was represented by solicitor Kate Bleasel.
Ms Bleasel said her client had an intellectual disability but was not applying to have the case heard under section 32 of the Mental Health Act.
“He has entered into an agreement to repay the damage, the issue was over his pet ferrets,” she said.
Magistrate Terry Lucas agreed to put Hassall on the good behaviour bond but reproached him for his behaviour.
“What you did was incredibly stupid,” Mr Lucas said.
According to police facts between 6.30pm and 7pm on January 17, Hassall damaged property at the group home after becoming agitated when he thought his pet ferrets were going to be taken from him.
The police report said he shut himself in a bathroom and while inside smashed a plastic pipe and broke the top of the tap causing water to run everywhere.
Another occupant alerted staff when he came out of the bathroom but he walked into the laundry and cut the cord of the iron.
Police said he then went into the backyard ripped out the corn crop.
Hassall denied an allegation that he also cut the hose off at the connection.
However, he admitted to pouring sand and gravel into the fuel tank of a work car parked at the house and as a result the car is being assessed and is unable to be used.
Hassall has begun paying for the damage to be repaired.
