The owner of Orange’s Second Mouse Cheese Company has won a gold medal at this year’s Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Show.
The cheese, Frieda, which is orange, is a “stinky” washed rind variety.
Mr Woltmann named the cheese after his mother, who he described as “a strong woman.”
The cheese has gone one better than last year where it claimed a silver medal.
“It’s pretty difficult to get right in time for the show,” he said.
Mr Woltmann said he was competing against larger cheese making operations and was delighted with the result.
“It received 18.17 out of 20.
“Nobody has ever got 19.”
Mr Woltmann will be stepping up production of the gold-medal winner for Orange FOOD Week where it is likely to be popular among foodies.
He said that with the cheese being so strong and pungent it is best served with a sweet white wine.
WINDOWS TO THE WORLD
Ideas on how to brighten up shop window displays will be offered to businesspeople this week.
A free workshop on shopfront visual displays, led by Sydney firm AUSvm Visual Merchandising Solutions, will be provided by Orange City Council as part of the State government’s Back to Business Week program.
Council’s Employment and Economic Development committee chair Jeff Whitton said the workshop would look at both shopfronts and in-store displays.
“Whether your business is in a high-traffic area of Orange’s CBD or you’re in an industrial estate, if you want to make a good visual first impression on your customers, this workshop is worth sending staff to,” he said.
It’s on from 7.30am-9.30am at the Hotel Canobolas on Friday.
