Western Zone under-16 speedster Harry Pearce led the way for Cavaliers, picking up 3-30 from his 11 overs after taking the new rock as the maroons held Kinross to 9-156 from their 50 overs.
Considering that and their fourth standing on the ladder, 30 overs at the crease at the end of the day would’ve given Cavaliers a prime opportunity to knock off plenty in the chase and put themselves in a position to push for an outright win.
Instead, rain came and ended the day’s play.
Although, any shape of a win is pivotal at this point in the season for the maroons.
They’re equal with Centrals on points but sit fourth on quotient, a loss for the red and blacks and a win for the maroons would push the latter side up to third going into the last round, where they play Centrals.
Mark Maybin (2-30) also picked up multiple scalps for Cavaliers, while Scott Kennedy (1-9), Josh Doherty (1-24), Brad Wright (1-29) grabbed a wicket each as well.
The day didn’t start well for Kinross, Pearce cleaned up Donald Hearn (0) and Kennedy snared Charlie Mitton (2) to leave Kinross reeling at 2-4.
The students resurrected the innings though to post a respectable total, thanks largely to Charlie Greer, who knocked up 55.
Max Powell (24 not out) also added some much-needed starch in the lower order as did Hugh McIntyre (20), helping lift their side above 150.
