But the 50-minute meeting, called by Mayor Ian Gosper at the council offices in Molong on Friday, did little to resolve their differences.
Instead the group seeking changes to council boundaries to allow their properties to become part of Orange City Council is taking their complaint to Sydney.
Group spokesman Guy Gaeta said they had sought a meeting with Local Government minister Gabrielle Upton and the head of the National Party, deputy premier John Barilaro.
“We’ve asked for a meeting with both of them and we’re awaiting a response.”
He said the Cabonne meeting had been cordial and both sides had put their case.
“We put forward the eastern Cabonne boundary adjustment that we launched this week.
“Council put forward another position.
“We will now be talking to the State government about having an inquiry.”
Mr Gaeta said they were also seeking clarification about whether their original submission, sent to the government in 2011, was valid, or whether it needed to be re-activated.
Council issued a brief statement about the meeting.
“The council was happy to meet with the eastern group representatives this morning when there was a fruitful and cordial discussion.”
Council’s next meeting is on Tuesday at 2pm.
The breakaway group announced its intentions in Robertson Park on Tuesday.
They said they had closer ties to Orange, paid higher rates than neighbours in Orange, did not get rubbish collected and their roads were in a poor condition.
