The old railway site was also inspected by rail safety officials in preparation for repairing track, installing a link to the main line, repairing old buildings and installing three rollingstock sheds.
Several Orange people have signed up to volunteer to help the tourist railway group but more are needed.
Supervisor Tony Neich said the next working bee was next Thursday and volunteers could call him on 6362 5054.
“We are looking for anyone to help. A lot of retired men would be good if they have the time,” he said.
For volunteer Mike McCormack it was a return to the place where worked for the railways many years ago.
“There used to be up to 30-40 engines here at one time,” he said.
LVR secretary/treasurer John Healey said they hoped to connect to the main line within a few months.
The LVR has run four vintage railmotor day trips from Orange in the past few weeks.
The Central Western Daily joined the February 18 trip to the Condobolin picnic races.
