A spokesperson for Fair Trading said they had been in contact with the event director Dan Gold following a couple of complaints from athletes.
However, the spokesperson said they needed more complaints to build a stronger case.
“I absolutely encourage people to give us a call [13 32 20],” she said.
“In cases where non-compliance with the relevant legislation is detected, Fair Trading has a range of enforcement options available to it.”
She said that ranged from educating the trader to formal warnings and enforceable undertakings as well as legal action.
About 350 people entered the event but did not receive merchandise they paid for as part of their $80 entry fee.
Mr Gold did not answer calls for comment from the Central Western Daily this week.
Last week he said the missing hats, T-shirts, water bottles and medals had arrived at his Brisbane office after being delayed in delivery from his supplier in China.
Mr Gold told the Central Western Daily he apologised to the runners for the delays and vowed the merchandise would be sent.
Many fed-up runners have posted their comments on Facebook this week.
Jenny Whiley said she now did not believe it would be sent.
“No, we have not received our stuff. It won't ever turn up, I'd say,” she said.
Grant Mansell said he was surprised at the situation.
“No, I'm shocked they haven't arrived.”
Tracee Livingstone agreed.
“Nope. Doubt we will ever get it,” she posted.
Kellie Lalor was also concerned about the situation, particularly relating to Outback Obstacles’ own Facebook page.
“Considering all visitors posts on his page have been deleted, it's not looking good,” she said.
That Facebook page has many similar comments from runners.
However, one from Stacey Russell of Bendigo, dated February 20, said she had received T-shirts but not the other gear.
