National travel, caravan and motorhome magazine Roam, which has Mal Leyland and wife Laraine as its star writers, have voted Orange FOOD Week as the second best festival in Australia in their top 10 food and wine festivals for 2017.
Beaten only by Launceston’s Festivale, Orange FOOD Week, ranked the highest on mainland Australia and best in NSW.
The magazine praised the festival for featuring only locally produced meats, fresh produce and other foods.
“It dishes up 10 days of exciting events,” the latest issue said.
“Breakfast in lush vineyards or on the FOOD train, lunch on farms and dine at the 100 Mile Dinner.
“Join Foreage for a 4.1km walking degustation through vineyards and picturesque paddocks, stock up at the Producers’ Market and eat some more at the Night Market.”
The magazine recommended visiting the Agrestic Grocer which it said was “an eclectic cafe and retail store focused on real, local food.”
FOOD Week association president James Sweetapple said he understood a representative from the magazine had visited last year’s festival.
“It’s fantastic. Like all the others in the top 10, there are some great festivals in NSW and Australia, we’re all stepping up.”
The review comes just a few weeks before FOOD Week kicks off on March 31 and runs until April 9.
Mr Sweetapple said ticket sales were strong with a few events sold out or close to selling out.
“There are still plenty of events that have room,” he said.
“Typically the locals are leaving things to the last minute.
“Sydney people are extremely well organised and have booked their tickets already.”
Mr Sweetapple said one key event, the 100 Mile Dinner, was close to selling out.
And he said the Night Market would have 50 stalls.
