Adam Anthony Leslie Moorby, 27, pleaded guilty to driving at speeds of between 120 km/h and 140km/h and crossing on to the incorrect side of the roadway, among a number of other offences.
The Dubbo man had been arrested after a short foot chase in the city’s centre on January 18.
On February 15 he appeared before magistrate Gary Wilson in Dubbo Local Court to face a string of charges.
He pleaded guilty to stealing a car, not stopping in a police pursuit, driving in a manner dangerous, driving while disqualified, refusing to submit to a breath test and two counts of not giving his details after a crash.
The offending began about 4.40pm on January 18 when Moorby went to a dealership at Orange and stole a car, court documents show.
He had made off with the Holden Colorado after telling the salesperson he wanted to hear the vehicle’s engine, driving out of the lot with the bonnet still up, the documents show.
Two hours later police spotted the vehicle at Stuart Town, which struck a street sign causing damage to the passenger’s side.
Moorby, who was the driver, ignored signals to stop and a police pursuit begin.
He was followed to Mumbil, his vehicle often moving on or over the centre divide.
The pursuit was called off due to safety concerns, and Moorby continued on.
On the Mitchell Highway his manner of driving prompted a number of calls to triple zero.
Police came across the Holden Colorado again at Wongarbon and Moorby continued along the Mitchell Highway, reaching speeds of between 120km/h and 140km/h.
Coming into Dubbo, the accused went west on Erskine Street at an estimated speed of 85km/h to 100km/h on the wrong side of the road.
In Macquarie Street he struck a parked car but did not stop.
At one stage he went over the median strip and drove in the Macquarie-Bultje streets roundabout against the flow of traffic.
He struck another parked car but went on before entering the intersection of Macquarie and Church streets.
He stopped, got out of the vehicle and ran but was taken to the ground by police and handcuffed.
He was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for blood and urine tests.
He was then returned to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with driving a stolen ute, Skye’s Law, driving whilst disqualified and other traffic matters.
The matter was adjourned to Orange Local Court for sentence on February 27.
