After heading to the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith to prepare for the weekend’s competition, they were told on arrival all of the under-16 and under-17 events had been cancelled due to the predicted extreme heat.
On top of that, all the Schoolboy and Schoolboy Coxed Quad Scull events were called off too.
Plenty of racing did go ahead though, and Kinross returned to Orange with a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal as well from six events contested.
That gold was Maggie Noonan and Jocelyn Date’s.
With Date gunning to defend several gold medals from 2015 and 2015, the duo blitzed their Champion Schoolgirl Double Scull heat to qualify for the final before repeating that performance to claim a decisive gold medal win.
Their male counterparts, Tim Mutton and James Moons, won through to their final too, moving from fourth to second in the back half of the race and winning silver.
One of Kinross’ Champion Schoolboy Four group claimed bronze, while the other also won through the final.
Of Kinross’ other squads, the two blues’ Champion Schoolgirl Eight finished fourth while Will Stanley Davies rowed well but missed the final of the Champion Schoolboy Single Scull and the Under-19 Quad Scull team went unplaced.
