Tyneside, built in 1899, is up for sale for the first time in 45 years.
When it goes up for auction on Friday March 3, the agent Nigel Staniforth of Benchmark Rural and Lifestyle, said it should sell for well over $1 million.
Just seven houses in the CBD have topped $1 million with 27 Byng Street leading with $1.5 million last year.
Mr Staniforth said many of the 20 people keen on 15 Sale Street were from Sydney.
“I would say 50-60 per cent of the inquiries are from Sydney,” he said.
Mr Staniforth said demand was rising as Sydney housing prices have soared.
“It’s a mixture of people in their late 30s to early 40 year olds and retirees,” he said.
“Tyneside is unique with its CBD location, Federation style, a house that has great character and is on a big [2100 square metre] block.
Owner Bob Garvin said he bought Tyneside in 1972.
“It is a very big place. When the kids were growing up they could do laps around the garden.”
McCormack Barber real estate owner/director Peter McCormack said his agency had sold four of the million dollar-plus properties.
“It seems to be mainly Sydney and Brisbane money. A lot of them are in the medical fraternity in some way.
“They have the money to buy what they want.”
McCormack Barber has 175 Anson Street for sale for more than $1 million.
Brand Orange executive officer Rhonda Sear said lifestyle, jobs, schools, health and housing prices and supply were important to people looking to move to Orange.
“They have an automatic perception about housing prices compared to Sydney,” she said
“Supply, it is limited.
“There has been a strong push in people moving here and investing here.”
