Grevsmuhl hasn’t been sighted on a rugby league field since being released by Penrith for personal reasons mid-way through the 2016 season.

The 23-year-old has been linked with CYMS for the 2017 Group 10 season having temporarily moved to Orange with his fiance Tori Moore, a former league tag gun with the green and golds. 

CYMS captain-coach Mick Sullivan says, however, Grevsmuhl still holds ambitions of playing in Sydney this year, but is likely to have a run at West Wyalong next Friday.

The green and golds will kick-off its campaign against Group 9 club Temora on February 24.

“He’s had the last six sessions with us, he’s been here for close to a month now,” Sullivan said, CYMS also set to hand a club debut to hulking prop Chris Bamford at the knockout.

The 2017 tournament is worth nigh on $15,000.

“Grevsmuhl will be great to have there. He’s keen and his experience would be great for us,” Sullivan added.

Sullivan wasn’t phased by his club’s Knockout opener, CYMS have been drawn a 10.20pm clash with the Temora Dragons.

“It’s hot up there and it’ll give guys time to head over. It’s not a bad draw, hopefully we can get through Friday night then prepare for the Saturday games,” Sullivan said.

“It’s not a bad draw … the bye would have been better though.”

An appearance from Grevsmuhl would boost CYMS’ chances significantly in a competition the green and golds haven’t enjoyed much success at.

In Sullivan’s seven years in charge, the green and golds have made the final just once.

If CYMS account for Temora, they’ll face either Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United or Wagga Brothers.

In an early blockbuster, Group 9 premiers Southcity Bulls will take on Group 11 champions Forbes Magpies from 7.40pm.

Forbes, Southcity and hosts West Wyalong Mallee Men join CYMS on the same side of the knockout’s draw.

Bathurst Panthers have a tough draw, Todd Barrow’s side locked in to face Group 9 powerhouse Albury Thunder from 11pm.

If successful in progressing, Panthers will likely face Group 9 giants Gundagai in Saturday’s finals fixtures.
