EXPECT to see plenty of witches, vampires and devils tonight in Orange.
And get used to it too.
Halloween is here to stay.
“I think people are just starting to realise how fun it is,” manager of Balloons As Well The Party Shop Liz Gaeta said in the midst of one of the busiest Halloween rushes the store has experienced.
“Everyone has come in and seen us [dressed up] and has said everywhere else is sold out.
“Everyone is pretty excited about it this year.”
Whether you like it or not, the time-old American institution of getting dressed up in your scariest Frankenstein or Dracula costume and knocking on your neighbour’s door trick-or treating has gradually made its way across the Pacific.
But none more than this year has all the pumpkin jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbing and haunted house hunting taken over down under.
Retail giant Big W has stocked Halloween paraphernalia this season while other party shops are also under fire from anyone and everyone wanting to get the right wart to position on their nose ahead of today’s festivities.
As much as adults like it, the kids love it more.
“This will be my sixth or seventh Halloween and every year it’s getting more and more popular,” Balloons As Well The Party Shop store owner Rebecca Lloyd said.
“Not so much decorations but everyone is coming in and getting costumes. More and more kids are mixing their birthdays with Halloween themes.”
Halloween, also known as All Hallows’ Eve, is observed in a number of countries around the world on October 31, the eve of the western Christian day of All Hallows or All Saints’ Day.
