And the lead-up has been brilliant.
After the club stormed to round wins in Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst, members of the club took on the Elite Energy Tri Canberra at the end of January.
With temperatures soaring to 36 degrees in the nation’s capital – triathletes can expect similar conditions in Mudgee on Sunday - former OCTClub member, Laura Wolfson was in red hot form in the sprint distance event.
An Australian representative and standard distance 2015 World Duathlon Age champion, Wolfson tackled the 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run leg and not only won gold in the 20-24 female age category in an impressive time of one hour, 10 minutes and 19 seconds, but was the overall female winner in the 78 strong female division, and 12th overall from 178 combined gender fellow competitors.
Wolfson currently resides in Canberra and is training with the Canberra Bilby’s Triathlon Club and is the daughter of Australian and World Duathlon and Triathlon Age Group champion Christine Wolfson.
The mother and daughter duo won gold for Australia in their respective age groups at the 2015 World Duathlon Championships competing in the standard distance.
Amongst the Piranhas contesting the sprint distance at Canberra was Frank Ostini who received a gold medal for his efforts in the male 50-54 category (1.12:16).
Ostini ranked 17th from 91 male competitors and 18th overall from the 178 finishers.
Scott Wolfson, Laura’s father, not to be outdone by his offspring, finished second in the male 55-59 category in 1.19:15.
Kate Thornton (1.26:45) and Jo-Ann Braithwaite (1.34:19) contested the 45-49 female category finishing sixth and eighth respectively.
Competing in the slightly shorter distance, the enforcer event – a swim 400m-cycle 18-run 4km race – were Brad and young daughter Charlotte Simmons.
Brad placed first in the male 50-59 category in 57:12, fourth overall in his gender and eighth from the 101 total competitors.
Just behind, Charlotte finished in 59:20m, fourth in the 13-15 female age division and sixth overall in her gender.
Amanda Livingstone also participated in the enforcer event completing the course in 1.07:47 placing sixth in the 24-29 female category.
The 200m swim, 9km cycle and 2km enticer event saw another Braithwaite family member (Jo-Ann’s son) Billy complete the distance in 42:25.
Relatively new to the sport Billy Braithwaite received a bronze medal in the 20-29 male category.
Sunday’s inter-club leg at Mudgee includes two races. The enticer race starts at 8.30am, with the enduro kicking off at 9.15am.
