Canobolas Rural Fire Service has confirmed three vehicles were involved in an accident on the Mitchell Highway just before 3pm.
Three people were involved – two needed to be released from their vehicles by Fire and Rescue NSW and taken to hospital while the third was uninjured.
The highway was closed for a short time before police established a contraflow to keep traffic moving.
It was reopened at about 3.45pm and two vehicles are still waiting to be towed from the scene.
The cause of the accident and injuries remain unconfirmed.
TUESDAY, 3.30PM:
THE Mitchell Highway is closed between Orange and Molong after a car accident this afternoon.
According to livetraffic.com.au emergency services are on the scene of the accident about 15 kilometres north of Orange, near the Bruce Road turn off.
The road is closed in both directions and the website’s notification states “the highway will be closed for clean up”.
At this stage it is unknown how many cars were involved and the condition of the driver or drivers and any passengers.
If anyone is departing for Wellington or Dubbo it is recommended they use Burrendong Way.
