Algae was first noticed near the auxiliary dam wall in early December and Orange City Council spokesman Nick Redmond said state health authorities were notified.
“Staff are continuing to monitor the algal levels in the water, and compared to before Christmas, the testing has shown a decrease in the amount of algae in the water,” he said.
He said water could be taken from levels of the dam with lower algae counts and the water treatment plant’s ozone treatment equipment and an additional carbon filter system eliminated potential contamination in the drinking water supply.
