Far from it.
But despite success with the blues during their under 17s years, something tells the pair next month’s Softball Australia under 19s men’s national championship will be far from easy.
Zeylemaker, 17, will step up to the pitchers mound throughout the six-day title hunt, while Reith-Snare will man second base and patrol the outfield for NSW.
The duo – which was originally a trio, before Aiden Kelly was forced to withdraw from the side due to a broken finger – will be the only players in the side from the western area.
And both say the pressure will be on come game one at Redlands, Brisbane, on January 15.
“I will have to pitch a few games … there’s definitely is a bit more pressure there,” Zeylemaker said, also picked as an outfielder for NSW.
“You’re involved every play, chucking the ball down there.
“But you’ve got to have a positive mind-set, if you don’t believe in yourself then no one else will. It pays off in the end.”
Nationals isn’t a given. We have to work hard and play together.
- NSW second-baseman Mac Reith-Snare
That positive mind-set help Zeylemaker make it through the grueling selection process before eventually joining Reith-Snare, and Kelly, in the NSW under 19s side.
“I was hopeful. I was just excited to have the opportunity to trial for the team,” Reith-Snare said, adding the tournament is likely to dish up some of the toughest softball he’s been part of.
“Nationals isn’t a given. We have to work hard and play together. It’s a team thing, so we have to make sure we do what we can to win.
“Hopefully we can do the town proud and win a national title.”
“I’m confident in the side. I know we can do it, we just have to put it into play,” Zeylemaker added.
The national titles will be played from January 15 to 21.
