Miss Griffith said the moment she received her award felt surreal.
“Standing there with Governor David Hurley, Mrs Hurley and 11 of the only 14 girls who received the Award in 2016, I realised what an achievement it was,” she said.
“Like the other awardees, I took about two years to complete the challenges set.
At the time it was about managing my time, balancing my guiding with other commitments and enjoying the experiences but looking back I can see how that is an achievement.”
Helena, who has just completed her Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Orange High School, commenced with Orange Girl Guides as a nine-year-old in 2008.
“I’ve been to a state jamboree and travelled to the Guiding World Centre in India,” Helena said.
“It’s the friends I have made that mean the most to me.
“I’ve had lots of fun and share many memories with girls from all over Orange, the Central West, Australia and around the world.”
Awardees received a congratulatory certificate from Queen Elizabeth.
State commissioner for Girl Guides in NSW and the ACT Sarah Neill said the awards were earned through “careful decision making, planning and dedication”.
“Each of these girls and young women has proved that they are able to work towards and manage a project to its conclusion,” Ms Neill said.
“Girl Guides have always been at the leading edge of providing girls and young women with opportunities for self-development.
“Today the Girl Guides of NSW and ACT participate in activities, programs and opportunities to develop in the areas of teamwork, resilience, leadership and decision making.”
The Queen’s Guide Awards is the peak achievement award for youth members of Guides Australia.
The award provides members with an opportunity for personal development and recognises community involvement over the span of 12 to 18 months.
