Although his side already has first innings points and leads last-placed Cavaliers by 74 going into Saturday’s second day, Kinross coach Andrew Litchfield says the students won’t be thinking about securing outright points.

The first innings win the side has already secured should keep Kinross firmly entrenched in the Orange District Cricket Association top two through four rounds – uncharted territory for the students – unless Centrals or Orange City claim a very unlikely outright win.
An outright victory would significantly slash the buffer between second-placed Kinross and competition leaders CYMS, but Litchfield said his side will focus on batting time and building an innings.
For the first part of the day, anyway.
“We’re in a very similar position to the one we were in against Centrals a few weeks ago,” Litchfield said.
“We hadn’t earned first innings points by stumps but we were close.
“We probably got a little bit of ahead of ourselves in that one, started talking about setting targets and how many overs we’d need to bowl them out and ended up only having a small lead which Centrals ran down to outright us.
“But the great thing about working with this young team is they’re fast learners and that loss is still very fresh in their minds so I know they’ll be very determined to work hard and build a good score in this second innings.”
Although Cavaliers are a far cry from the dominant sides of the past, Litchfield said there’s still plenty of quality in the maroons’ line up, capable of spinning the game on its head given the chance.
The second day of Kinross’ clash with Cavaliers kicks off at 1pm at Wade Park, with Stu Crisp and Charlie Greer the not out batsmen.
