Damien Fardell, 20, from Weema Place was caught in possession of methamphetamine on July 17.
About 12.10am police were conducting a drug dog operation outside a hotel in Summer Street.
The dog gave a positive identification for illicit drugs when it approached Fardell.
Fardell was searched and told police he had a tablet in his wallet.
A resealable plastic bag was found in his wallet containing a pink tablet with a playboy bunny symbol and a crushed tablet.
Fardell was represented in court by solicitor Neil Jones who said his client did not know what he was buying.
Mr Jones said Fardell thought he was buying speed so he could have extra energy and stay out with his friends.
“He’s a hard working man and works as a chef,” Mr Jones said.
However, a drug analysis returned a positive result for methamphetamine with a total weight of 0.32 grams.
