IT is to be hoped that the elected candidate for Orange will work hard to reinstate the ban on greyhound racing for these reasons.

As many as 17,000 greyhounds are euthanised annually in Australia as deemed no longer able to race i.e.: win.
Most greyhounds are over-bred and raised purely to win money.
This former hobby has developed into a money-making industry where dogs are used for racing and discarded (killed) when they stop winning.
At age four and a half they are not wanted as they are past their prime.
Instead of killing unwanted dogs, it would be great if owners offered them up for adoption.
They are gentle, loving, low maintenance, affectionate and need little exercise.
If voters care about dogs and the ‘live baits’ often used for training, please think carefully before you vote.

CLAIMS OF BALANCING THE BUDGET ARE A SELL OUT
THE state Government have been credited for balancing the budget.
It does not need a lot of intelligence to work out how they managed to do this.
They have sold and continue to sell huge amounts of state assets.
If history stays firm there will be a change of government come 2019.
By then there will be nothing left to sell plus no money left and will be in the same predicament as the Federal Government.
We need a strong voice in parliament to oppose any more sell offs.
That is not the Nationals candidate Scott Barrett.

MOSQUE OPEN DAY OPENS MINDS ABOUT MUSLIMS
LIKE many Orange residents, I took the opportunity to visit the Muslim mosque during the recent open day organised by Orange's Muslim community.
Questions that I asked were answered honestly and in detail.
I was also grateful for the information package given as I left the mosque, because the pamphlets clearly outlined and refuted the misconceptions that many of us have about Islam.
This is especially true about implied links to terrorism and other forms of violence.
Sincere thanks are passed on to Orange's Muslim community for a well organised mosque day and for your generous hospitality and friendship.

THE SECRET TO NEVER COPPING A SPEEDING FINE
SPEEDING is not the only cause of road fatalities, but it is one of the big three.
Even if it were the case that other causes were being ignored, which they are not, that would be no reason for not taking measures to reduce speeding.
Its extent can be judged by the large amount of revenue produced daily from speed cameras. Moreover, it does not require much driver education to teach people not to press the accelerator so hard.
So catching more speeders, fining the daylights out of them and suspending their licences seems indicated. Turn on the point-to-point cameras, which have been shown empirically to be effective in other states.
And no one need ever pay a speeding fine. Just don't go so fast. It is not rocket science.
