The Central Western Daily has received reports of people coming and going from the building and a television had been spotted running inside.
The centre, which was built in the 1960s and housed the former Orange Community Health Centre, Breast Screen and the Central West Division of General Practice remains under NSW Health Infrastructure’s (HI) ownership.
A HI spokeswoman said no one had legal authorisation to occupy the site, temporarily or otherwise.
“HI has engaged a local security company who regularly monitor the site,” she said.
“HI is concerned with the trespassing and vagrancy and has made various attempts to secure and board up the buildings.”
The spokeswoman also said HI had requested Canobolas Local Area Command (LAC) to keep a watch on the outside of the buildings.
The building was subject to an expressions of interest process and negotiations with potential buyers have started.
Mission Australia aged care general manager Jill Bicknell said she had not heard of people using the building specifically, but she would not be surprised as nights were still cold.
“They find empty houses and start to squat,” she said.
Canobolas LAC crime manager Detective Inspector Bruce Grassick said police had monitored the building but it was up to HI to secure the property.
