In recent years the school has changed its canteen menu with a focus on healthy and tasty options and is planning to use the funding to spread its success.
Provided by Barnardos Children’s Support Program and sponsored by ALDI, the funding will be for a 12-month program called Canteen on the Run, which will see the school provide healthy canteen options to small schools across the region.
The school’s canteen and catering manager Andrew Farley said participating schools are yet to be finalised but trials are underway at Mullion Creek Public School and Clergate Public School.
“It’s to offer kids the experience of and opportunity to access healthy food through a canteen in the same style as we do at Canobolas Rural Technology High School,” Mr Farley said.
He said the focus will be on small schools that do not have canteen facilities.
