Proving the school to be an all-round powerhouse on the sporting field, Canobolas proved dominant on the basketball court, while strong showings in the boys’ and girls’ touch football helped achieve the impressive school sport result.

Hosted at the Orange PCYC and the neighbouring Anzac Park grass fields, the 2016 CKC Cup was played with tremendous sportsmanship between the two schools.

A note teacher Mark Skein was keen to make.

“It’s a great competition for the school,” he said.

“There’s a high rate of participation and the sportsmanship from both schools was really great to see.”

Now in its sixth season, the CKC Cup is headed to Cowra in 2016 after they defeated Kelso High School in their home leg of the carnival earlier in the year.

Kelso defeated Canobolas in their home round in Bathurst.

Skein said the competition was established from a desire to increase sporting exchange between schools in the area.

“We got together one day and had an idea to get a bit of a sports exchange up and running. I was living in Cowra at the time and they jumped on board there,” he added.

Four points are on offer for each sport, with three allocated to the victors and one to the runners-up.

The points are split 2-all in the event of a draw.

Out of the 22 matches played, Canobolas won nine, while four events had ties.

“One of the best performances we saw was from our Year 9 and 10 basketball boys. They had a really big win,” Skein said.

Competitors are drawn from Years 7 through to 10.

Both schools thanked the support provided by the Year 11 students who helped coordinate the day.

In two of the more memorable clashes, the Years 9 and 10 girls’ touch football team came back from being 5-2 down in the dying minutes to even the score and finish at 5-all.

While the Years 9 and 10 boys’ basketball proved a force to be reckoned with on the court, displaying fantastic skill and taking down the opposition 62-9.
