Do it in consecutive winning grand finals and that’s a different thing.
Le Lievre’s remarkable achievment for CYMS had people all the way up to the Mitchell rep team chairman of selectors Neil Doherty sitting up and taking notice.
Le Lievre will get his first chance at representing Mitchell on Saturday against Macquarie at Jack Brabham 2. Then on Sunday Mitchell will head to Cowra to play Lachlan – giving Le Lievre a serious introduction into this level of cricket.
“Yes, it is the highest rep level I have been picked for,” Le Lievre said on Friday.
“I haven’t been playing well enough and I haven’t made myself available due to work and uni commitments.”
Le Lievre is one of the few doctors playing top level cricket in Orange and said it was hard at times to be able to commit enough time to top level cricket.
He has played in the Albury-Wodonga cricket competition and for the University of NSW team in the Sydney grade competition before coming to Orange in 2013.
“I think the Orange competition is pretty reasonable for a regionally-based competition. We only have the five teams in Orange and one them is a school team. The pool is not as deep.”
Which leads us to the remarkable consecutive grand final tons. Is there an explanation for his stand-out big time achievements?
“The short answer is ‘No’. I guess I really enjoy playing for CYMS. A couple of years back the club hadn’t won a grand final for many years,” he said.
“There was a lot of self-determination to perform well for the team in that first one. They were two different innings. I’ve had a bit of luck in those two innings and that’s been the difference.”
Next step is the representative level which Le Lievre said he is really looking forward to playing at, as it gives him the chance to play against a higher level of cricketers.
“I’m looking forward to being exposed to that standard,” he said.
It will also be the first Mitchell game for Orange wicketkeeper Matt Corben who was picked on the back of some strong play last season. Corben plays alongside Orange captain Richie Venner at Cavaliers.
