The former 60 Minutes cameraman could’ve chatted all night with ABC Central West Radio’s Julie Clift asking the questions about his adventures now in a book called All This in 60 Minutes.
He spoke about growing up in the Central West and his fascination with taking photos, getting a job and early career with lots of funny stories, then the horrors of war, working with journalists like Richard Carleton and Ray Martin, celebrity shockers, coping with traumatising scenes, drinking, eating, travelling the world, medical emergencies and dangerous stories.
He said he was right there with the 60 Minutes current affairs program from the beginning when filming started in September 1978 and it began screening on television in February 1979. He said averaged 40 stories a year for 30 years.
The audience was also invited to ask questions and his advice to anyone wishing to write a book was “just do it”.
