NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Lands and Water Niall Blair will be in Orange on Friday to make an announcement on the Belubula River undertaking.
The proposed dam has been championed by the region’s State and Federal parliamentarians, including past and present Members for Calare John Cobb and Andrew Gee, while there has been stiff opposition from environmental groups who are concerned about its impact on the nearby Cliefden Caves.
Mr Niall will meet with representatives of Lachlan Valley Water and the Belubula Landholders Association to discuss the project prior to Friday’s announcement.
“In coming weeks I will announce the successful tenderer for stage two of this process, to conduct a detailed feasibility study into a possible new dam at Cranky Rock,” Mr Blair said.
“While there has been extraordinary rainfall and flooding through the Central West recently, we know that this will not always be the case.”
