A Central Western Daily journalist by trade, Mr Findlay traveled to Sydney for Budgy Smuggler’s gala event having qualified for the competition’s top 10 via a series of social media challenges.
Saturday’s finale saw contestants complete, among other things, a runway walk in their tight-fitting swimmers, a question-and-answer session with a judging panel and a talent performance of their own choosing.
While Mr Findlay lost out to Mount Isa’s Dan Leyden he said the experience was worthwhile.
“A couple of the judges told me I was an honourable third,” he said.
“But none of that matters. It was all about raising money for charity and that’s what happened.”
Mr Findlay packed his budgy smugglers on Sunday morning ahead of a six-week trip around Asia.
