Orange High School students Chloe Barrett and Tom Milson were among the many students who undertook English paper one.
Chloe said the exam was better than she expected.
“I think the stress of the first exam is always the worst because you’re at the start of it and the nerves start to get you,” she said.
Tom said he felt relieved that the first exam was over and overall found the paper good.
“I felt some sections were better than others but I think overall it was fairly solid,” he said.
Principal David Lloyd said there was a mix of emotions among students prior to the exam.
“It was interesting, some felt very confident about the exam and some came out a little bit nervous and wanted to go home to prepare well for the next exam,” Mr Lloyd said.
“That first initial time in the exam room with independent supervisors can be really daunting.
“Hopefully from here on in, they can feel more confident with the work they’ve done to prepare for it.”
On Friday, students will sit English paper two (standard, advanced and ESL), hospitality, classic Greek extension and Italian continuers.
On Monday, exams will include senior science, information and digital technology, metal and engineering and languages (Indonesian, German, Italian and Korean).
