Ray Hadley, who broadcasts on 2GB, committed to visiting the electorate ahead of the November 12 byelection with fellow broadcaster Alan Jones.

Mr Donato is a candidate for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party and has committed to repealing the greyhound racing ban if he is successful.

He said receiving the endorsement from Mr Hadley was “overwhelming” and committed to working harder to win the seat.

“I wasn’t expecting it when I started this journey,” Mr Donato said.

“He’s undoubtedly one of the most popular radio announcers in the country.

“To have him supporting the repeal of the ban is fantastic.”

No date has yet been set for the visit by the 2GB broadcasters.

“I hope it would be the week of, or weeks leading up to the byelection,” Mr Donato said.

“I’ve got to work hard on the ground in Orange and surrounding areas to galvanise that support.

“Getting out there, wearing out the soles of my shoes, listening, meeting and talking to people, and ultimately trying to win the support of the people.”

Mr Donato said the byelection was about sending a message to the government, a message which was strengthened with support from Ray Hadley.

“If we win, we’ll be working with the ALP and crossbenchers to repeal the ban,” he said.

“If we don’t, I hope we can get sufficient support to send a message that people in regional NSW won’t be treated or trodden on like this by government.”

The endorsement for Mr Donato follows a collapse in support for the National party, which was last polled at 34.6 per cent, according to a ReachTEL poll of the Orange electorate, paid for by the NSW Labor Party.

At the 2015 state election, former Member for Orange Andrew Gee won 65.6 per cent of the first preference vote.

That poll put the Shooters’ party at 15.5 per cent, Labor at 27.5 per cent, independent Scott Munro at 11.5 per cent and the Greens at 11 per cent.

Early reports suggest the Labor Party and Shooters’ party could exchange preferences at the byelection, potentially ending Orange’s status as a safe seat.
